The BBC is running an article asking people to nominate their favourite odd words. And what's there at number six?

In case anyone was wondering why I asked, my old headmaster used to use it - he would refer to people as 'Lallygaggers and scrimshankers', in a way which ensured that everyone respected him and nobody used to do impressions of him, no. Especially as he was Welsh and his ears stuck out, and he had a nervous twitch under his left eye when he got annoyed. So no, nobody would take him off behind his back at all. But anyway, he was the only person who ever used the word, and I'd never seen it written anywhere. Nobody at work had heard of it at all, so I was curious as to whether anybody else had.
